Established in 1882 by George H. Downing, Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel has been providing compassionate funeral services in the West Hingham area for over a century. In 1906, we relocated to our present location, ensuring convenient access for our valued clients.

Over the years, our firm has been passed down through generations, symbolizing the commitment to family and preserving the tradition of excellence. E. Gardner Jones joined the team in 1933, followed by his son Edward G. Jones in 1962. In 1972, they took ownership of the funeral chapel from the Downing Family. Continuing this legacy, Frederick W. Slinger, Jr. acquired the firm in May 2012, upholding the values of family ownership and dedicated service.

We are honored to serve as a chapel for all faiths, recognizing and respecting the diverse needs and beliefs of our community.
