Stroo Funeral Home, Inc., located at 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508, is a reputable funeral home with a long-standing history of providing personalized, compassionate service to families in need. Established in 1972 by John K. and Elaine Stroo, the funeral home was born out of a desire to offer a small-town atmosphere where families could find solace during difficult times.

The founders, John and Elaine, brought with them a wealth of experience from working in other funeral homes in the Grand Rapids area. Their vision was to create a business of their own, where personalized care and compassion were at the forefront. Cutlerville, with its tight-knit community and absence of a funeral home, presented the perfect opportunity for the Stroo family to fulfill their vision.

As Cutlerville and its surrounding area grew and expanded, so did the funeral home. In 1986, the chapel was enlarged and the entire facility was redecorated to accommodate the increasing number of families seeking their services. In 1998, the Stroo family moved out of their funeral home residence and converted it into additional funeral home space, along with a large addition.

With the growth in facility space came the need for more staff members to meet the needs of the families served by Stroo Funeral Home. In 1993, Mike Vos joined as the first full-time licensed funeral director, followed by Laurie Beute in 1999 as the first full-time office administrator. Licensed funeral director Ken Speyer joined the team in 2000, followed by Bob Stroo, John and Elaine's son and also a licensed funeral director, in 2002. In 2014, Amy Middendorf joined as a prearrangement counselor. In addition to the dedicated full-time staff members, the funeral home is fortunate to have a part-time support staff composed of several individuals who assist on a regular basis.

In 2018, an exciting change occurred at Stroo Funeral Home. After 45 years of owning and managing the business, John Stroo took a lesser role and sold his portion to Bob Stroo and Mike Vos. Bob and Mike now assume shared responsibility as co-owners, alongside the dedicated staff members, in order to continue providing personalized, compassionate service to the families who entrust their loved ones to Stroo Funeral Home.
