While we deeply value direct communication, it is important to note that, as per the regulations in the State of Michigan, a licensed funeral home is required to be involved in all arrangements concerning a deceased individual. Therefore, direct arrangements with Southern Michigan Services are not possible. However, during the arrangement conference with your funeral director, you may express your desire to witness the cremation, and we will schedule a suitable date and time to accommodate your wishes.

Rest assured, our strict adherence to procedures guarantees that you receive the cremated remains of your loved one. From completing the necessary paperwork and fees, to meticulous checklist completion at our crematory, we ensure that a metal disk with a unique ID number accompanies the remains throughout the process, firmly attached to the cremated remains bag. Please bear in mind that DNA is destroyed during the cremation process, rendering accurate testing impossible at this time.

At Southern Michigan Services, we understand that there might be concerns regarding the fate of items that do not burn, such as dental gold. We meticulously remove and discard any materials not consumed by the cremation process, enabling us to mechanically process (pulverize) the bone fragments for placement in an urn.

We believe in honoring your loved one's remains in a way that aligns with your preferences. You have the option to keep the cremated remains with you, scatter them in permitted areas, bury them in a cemetery, or place them in a mausoleum. Additionally, a portion of the remains can be kept in a mini urn or keepsake jewelry, serving as a cherished remembrance. Our funeral director will be more than happy to present you with various memorial product options to consider.

As for transportation and safety measures, containers that can be viewed through x-ray machines are recommended to be made of wood, plastic, or non-lead lined ceramic to ensure clarity during screening. However, under no circumstances will a screener open the container.
