Buffalo-Jonesboro Cemetery Inc

Buffalo Cemetery is a historic place of rest that holds a significant place in the community of Sanford. Established in 1870 on the grounds of Buffalo Presbyterian Church, the cemetery was initially created to accommodate the growing need for burial space. Over the years, it has expanded to cover over 25 acres at the intersection of Carthage Street and Firetower Road.

Once affiliated with the church, Buffalo Cemetery came under the ownership of the city of Sanford in the 1940s. In 1966, it was incorporated as a nonprofit organization, overseen by a dedicated volunteer board of directors. This dedicated group ensures the proper maintenance and preservation of the cemetery, along with the Jonesboro Cemetery.

The Jonesboro Cemetery has its own unique history, dating back to its founding in 1886 by K.H. Worthy. Originally established to lay his oldest daughter to rest, Jonesboro Cemetery has grown over time. Today, it is a tranquil place located along Cemetery Road in Jonesboro.

In 1932, three-fourths of the original burial site was deeded to the nearby Jonesboro Methodist Church, while the remaining fourth was given to the town of Jonesboro. In 1947, with the merging of Sanford and Jonesboro, both Buffalo Cemetery and Jonesboro Cemetery became part of a nonprofit entity overseen by a volunteer board of directors.

Both cemeteries offer a variety of burial options to ensure the wishes of loved ones are honored. From traditional burials to cremation niches, we strive to provide dignified final resting places for individuals of all backgrounds. Our prices reflect our commitment to affordability and inclusivity, with additional charges only applicable on weekends.
