Originally founded by Richard A. Adams as a furniture, coffins, and caskets store in Hiddenite, the business relocated to Taylorsville in the early 1900s and was later renamed R.A. Adams Furniture, Coffins, and Caskets. Escar Adams, Richard's son, took over the business in 1921 and established the first funeral home in Alexander County in 1935.

Over the years, Adams Funeral Home has evolved and expanded its facilities. From its humble beginnings on Second Street SW in Taylorsville, the funeral home moved to the old Campbell house in 1942. Finally, in 1958, it found its current location on the corner of Main Avenue Drive and Highway 16 South.
