Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is a distinguished funeral home and cremation service located in the heart of Whiteville, North Carolina. Since its establishment in 1963 by John W. Bennett, our funeral home has dedicated itself to serving the citizens of Columbus, Bladen, and Brunswick counties, as well as communities and cities across the United States.

Our name, Peoples Funeral Home, represents our commitment to providing compassionate and inclusive services to people of all races, cultures, and creeds. We believe that everyone deserves equal care and respect during their time of need. In 1969, we became incorporated as Peoples Funeral Home, Inc., solidifying our dedication to serving the community.

Under the visionary leadership of Arthalia Bennett Spaulding, we acquired our present location at 707 Vinson Boulevard in Whiteville, North Carolina in 1994. This move allowed us to expand our services and continue providing exceptional care to our patrons. Arthalia's passion and commitment to the funeral industry were passed down to her niece, Leacy Shipman Pierce, and her nephews, William Ernest Shipman and Raymond Eugene Shipman, who became the owners of Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville, Inc. in 1999.

Tragically, we lost Arthalia Bennett Spaulding in 2000 and Wyoming Wicker, a beloved member of our staff, in 2003. However, we rose to the challenge and embraced the opportunity to continue the great tradition and legacy established by the Bennetts. LaDeen Powell, our Chief Operating Officer, has been instrumental in managing the funeral home and preserving the dream envisioned by our founders. In recognition of her remarkable leadership, Ms. Powell was promoted to Chief Executive Officer in 2023.

As the owners, William Ernest Shipman, Nikki Shipman Hayes, and Raymond Eugene Shipman remain deeply committed to upholding the values and principles that have guided Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville for over half a century. We are driven by our desire to deliver the highest level of service and support to the families we serve.
