Originally built in 1902 as the summer cottage of Queens' Borough President, Martin Major, the white house on the corner has undergone various transformations over the years. In 1920, John S. Miller assumed ownership and transformed it into his residence and a place of solace for grieving families. Pioneering the concept of viewing chapels, Miller set a new standard in funerary services.

In the late 1940s, Arthur E. Hess joined forces with Mr. Miller, leading to the inception of the Hess-Miller Funeral Home. Since then, this establishment has steadily evolved, adapting to the changing needs and expectations of the community it serves. In 1982, the Martino Family, led by Mr. Anthony J. Martino, acquired Hess-Miller Funeral Home, inheriting its esteemed legacy along with a commitment to upholding its time-honored principles of integrity and quality.
