FEMA Covid Funeral Expense Reimbursement Information:

For those who have experienced the loss of a loved one to COVID-19, we want to inform you of the FEMA Covid Funeral Expense Reimbursement program. To be eligible for funeral assistance, the following requirements must be met:

- The death must have occurred in the United States, including the U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. - The death certificate must state that the cause of death was attributed to COVID-19. - The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified alien who incurred funeral expenses after January 20, 2020. The deceased person does not need to be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified alien. If you believe you meet the criteria for funeral assistance, you can apply by calling the COVID-19 Funeral Assistance Line at 844-684-6333 or TTY: 800-462-7585. The application process begins on April 12, 2021. The line is open Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central Time.

We strongly encourage you to collect and keep documentation of funeral expenses and relevant information, including an official death certificate, funeral expenses documents, and proof of funds received from other sources towards funeral costs. FEMA cannot duplicate benefits received from burial or funeral insurance, financial assistance from voluntary agencies, government agencies, or any other sources.

If you are eligible for funeral assistance, you will receive a check by mail or funds by direct deposit, depending on your preferred option.
