Established over half a century ago, Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home has a rich history deeply rooted in the funeral industry. Founded by Mauro P. Garcia Sr., a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer, our esteemed funeral home opened its doors in 1964 in San Diego, Texas.
The journey began when Mauro P. Garcia Sr. graduated from Commonwealth College of Sciences in Houston, Texas, in 1949. He honed his skills by working for Max Martinez Funeral Home in San Antonio before deciding to make Alice, Texas, his new home. With the knowledge he acquired, Mauro Sr. joined Walker-Mora Funeral Home, where he further cultivated his expertise.
In 1960, Mauro P. Garcia Sr. and Mr. Mike Rios combined their talents and established the Garcia-Rios Mortuary in San Diego, Texas. However, four years later, the partnership came to an end.
This led Mauro Sr. and his wife, Ines R. Garcia, to create Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego in 1964. Centralizing their services, they began coordinating funerals throughout San Diego, Benavides, and Freer, Texas. Although business started off slowly, Mauro Sr. persevered and expanded his offerings over the following years.
In 1971, Mauro P. Garcia Jr. and his wife, Betty Lou Creager Garcia, joined the family business. Working alongside his father, Mauro Jr. contributed to the rapid growth of the funeral home. The success of this partnership prompted plans to establish a second location.
In 1989, Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home of Alice opened its doors, marking a significant milestone for our establishment. With this expansion, our commitment to providing professional funeral services grew even stronger. Simultaneously, Mauro Sr.'s daughter, Maria D. Garcia Aleman, joined the family business, perpetuating the legacy.
Tragedy struck in 1994 when Mauro's beloved wife, Ines, passed away. Despite his immense loss, he carried on the traditions of exceptional service until his own demise in 1998. That same year, the funeral homes and chapel were incorporated into Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Homes, Inc., solidifying our commitment to serving the community.
Regrettably, on June 6, 2002, Mauro Jr. passed away after a valiant battle with cancer at the age of 50. Yet, his wife, Betty Lou, resiliently carries on the family's tradition of service, bringing with her 42 years of experience. To this day, she impeccably manages our funeral homes, upholding the principles and values on which Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home was established.
Our exceptional reputation in the funeral industry speaks volumes. For over 57 years, communities have entrusted us with their loved ones, generation after generation. Even after the passing of our pioneering founders, families continue to seek our services, recognizing the enduring legacy we have built.
At Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home, we understand the profound significance of honoring and remembering those who have departed. With the utmost professionalism and reverence, we stand ready to guide you through the funeral process, providing solace and support during this challenging time.
