Burial at Sea Charters specializes in providing respectful and dignified ashes scattering services at sea. Whether departing from Freeport Texas or Galveston Texas, we offer an honorable offshore scattering of your loved one's cremated remains.
Ashes scattering services or burials at sea have long been a time-honored display of respect for departed loved ones. At Burial at Sea Charters, we understand the importance of upholding this tradition. That's why we accommodate all faiths and religions, providing personalized attention and caring, dignified ashes scattering services for your loved one's remains.
During the attended memorial service, we will travel out past the required nautical mile distance where the ceremony takes place. Your loved one's cremated remains are either sprinkled or set adrift using a biodegradable cremation urn. This part of the service is typically performed by a family member or Captain Al Manica. As part of the service, you will receive an official sea burial/ashes scattering certificate that marks the offshore coordinates of your loved one's final resting place. Upon request, Captain Manica can also perform an eight bell end of watch blessing ceremony while at the memorial site.
Our charters are led by Captain Al Manica, a licensed United States Coast Guard Captain/Merchant Marine Officer with over 30 years of professional offshore chartering experience. Captain Al is also a PADI Dive Master and involved in oceanographic research work, ecological studies, and shipwreck excavation projects with esteemed organizations such as The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Texas A&M. Formerly the President of The Global Underwater Awareness Association, GUWAA Texas Division, Captain Al brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to every charter.
"The Carolyn Jane," our reliable Chris Craft yacht, is specifically designed for offshore excursions and charters. With a length of 36 ft. (42ft. loa), she is a safe and seaworthy vessel that features spacious foreword & aft decks, a large main salon cabin, a sofa, galley, two state rooms, refrigerator, microwave, and a full-sized private bathroom. Equipped with the latest navigational electronics and rescue safety equipment, including life jackets, a marine VHF radio, and an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), "The Carolyn Jane" ensures a secure and comfortable experience.
We are available seven days a week, ready to provide attended or unattended memorial services. Our attended memorial service option can accommodate up to six people, along with the Captain and deckhand/assistant, and can last up to three hours. To enhance the ceremony, we offer the option to set a floral wreath afloat among the deceased ashes. Additionally, Captain Al Manica can perform an eight bell end of watch blessing/ceremony upon request at no additional fee. This service includes an official ship's parchment ashes scattering certificate. The total cost for this option is $750, with a reservation deposit of $350.
For those who prefer an unattended memorial service, we conduct the service at the required distance from shore without bereaved friends or family members aboard. This service is conducted with utmost respect and includes a minimum of five digital photographs. Similar to the attended memorial service, we offer the option to set a floral wreath afloat among the deceased ashes and can perform an eight bell end of watch blessing/ceremony upon request. The total cost for this option is $350.
