Losing a family member is an incredibly distressing experience, and during such a time, it is important to know what steps to take. Regardless of when and where a death occurs, the first step should be contacting us as soon as possible. We will guide you through a series of specific questions, such as the name and location of the deceased, the attending physician's details, and the next of kin's information. Additionally, we will inquire about the type of funeral service you are considering, allowing us to initiate any necessary procedures promptly. Should you be uncertain about the type of service, please take your time, as we are committed to providing you with adequate information and pricing options to facilitate your decision-making process. Finally, we will schedule a convenient appointment to make the necessary arrangements.
In the case of a death occurring in a hospital or nursing home, the family is generally only required to notify us. The healthcare facility's staff will handle the needed procedures to ensure all legal requirements are met. While some facilities may contact us on behalf of the family, it is advisable for you to reach out to us directly to ensure a seamless process.
In the event of a sudden death outside of a healthcare facility, we recommend immediately dialing 911 to dispatch local police to the scene. The police will then take appropriate action based on the circumstances. For nonsuspicious deaths of apparently healthy individuals, the police will contact the State Medical Examiner's office for further instructions. Depending on the circumstances, an autopsy may be required. If the death is deemed suspicious, an autopsy will likely be ordered by the Medical Examiner.
If you anticipate the death of a family member, it is wise to start considering the final arrangements in advance. We offer pre-death consultations where we can gather the necessary information and discuss the services ahead of time. This approach allows the family to make important decisions without feeling overwhelmed at the time of death. To begin the arrangement process, please contact us and we will gladly assist you.
When a death occurs, there is paperwork that needs to be completed and information that we need to gather to plan the funeral. To make this process more convenient, we offer an Online Family Collaboration Center where you can fill out the required forms or print them and submit them to us. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us at any time.
