Ellyson Mortuary, Inc. has a long-standing history of providing dignified and compassionate funeral services to the Glenville, WV community and its surrounding counties. Established in October 1967 by Jennings “Jay” and Jean Spurgeon, the mortuary has been a pillar of support for families during their most difficult times.

With a seamless transition in leadership, Terry L. Ellyson assumed the role of President & CEO upon the retirement of the Spurgeons in 1983. The mortuary's name was changed to Spurgeon-Ellyson Mortuary, Inc. before eventually being shortened to Ellyson Mortuary, Inc. years later. This dedication to continuity and tradition is a testament to the mortuary's commitment to providing consistent, trustworthy funeral services.

Tragically, on July 22, 2023, Terry unexpectedly passed away, leaving a void within the mortuary. In an exemplary display of strength and dedication, Terry "Lee" Ellyson II, his son, stepped up to fill his father's shoes and assumed the position of President & CEO. With his extensive knowledge and expertise as a licensed funeral director/embalmer, Terry "Lee" Ellyson II continues to uphold the high standards set by his predecessors.

Despite facing adversity, Ellyson Mortuary, Inc. remained resilient. In 2010, the mortuary's structure was destroyed by fire, but through determination and unwavering commitment, it was rebuilt that same year and officially reopened in December 2010. This testament to perseverance showcases Ellyson Mortuary, Inc.'s dedication to providing a comforting and suitable environment for grieving families.

As a locally owned and operated funeral home, Ellyson Mortuary, Inc. has ingrained itself within the fabric of the Glenville community. Terry "Lee" Ellyson II, a proud graduate of Gilmer County High School and Glenville State College, has deep roots in the area and a profound understanding of the community's needs. His 2004 graduation from the esteemed Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science further solidified his expertise and commitment to serving families with the utmost professionalism and care.

Terry "Lee" Ellyson II is not only a devoted funeral director/embalmer but also a loving husband to his wife Wakasa and a proud father to their daughter, Allie Mitsu, and son, Jaxon Ty. In his free time, he finds solace in watching his daughter's basketball games, exploring the great outdoors, and indulging in the exhilarating world of NASCAR.
